Last summer I was fascinated by snails, and I would observe them eat whatever they could find on the ground. We have an apple tree so one day I saw a big snail binging on it. I imagined an apocalyptic scenario where a giant alien snail came to eat the whole Earth. I painted a comet in the background to create a more dramatic view. I later realized that we don't need an alien snail to eat the Earth... The devastation that dirty industry creates is a metaphorical monster that is eating out our planet. About the technique: to leave white spaces, as the comet and as the Earth clouds, I draw with wax before painting on the paper, so that wax repelled the color. As a finishing touch, I added a bit of white eye shadow on the comet, to give a very subtle impression that the comet is leaving a dust trail as it passes by.
