A woman facing the Universe, yet, grounded on the Earth. Growing roots while expanding her understanding of the cosmos. The crescent represents a barrier that prevent us to see far beyond our current capacity. Watercolor on paper and metallic ink.
This work is a very personal one. It is my first human figure and I dare to say represents myself. As I go through life trying to understand my place in the cosmos. As some of us ask questions, look up and wondering what lyes beyond, everything that we cannot see, as we at the same time are rooted into the Earth.
The Galaxy right in front of the woman is my interpretation of just the fraction of what we do know. In that scale, about one galaxy of understanding in a whole ocean of time and space.
I created this piece from a sketch I made long time ago, after a women's only retreat I attended in Colorado. That was a very profound experience. The sketch has been in my journal for two years now and I finally found the perfect moment to paint it. I love the very deep background. I used Daniel Smith Mineral watercolors. And metallic paint for the details.
