This female polar bear is taking her cubs to explore the Arctic. One of them is piggy backing on mama bear.
I made this scene at night, under the norther lights. I am not sure if polar bears actually travel during the night. It might be too dangerous for the cubs, specially if there are wolves or male polar bears around. I was watching a documentary from National Geographic in order to understand better this beautiful animals that are in danger of extinction. The mothers hibernate and deliver their cubs inside the den and don't come out until spring.
Polar bears might disappear from the Earth if climate change gets worse. Their habitat is literally melting. Polar bears need the sea to freeze in order to travel, hunt and reproduce. This painting is about hope. I like to think those cubs are going to be lucky and make it to adulthood, reproduce and keep polar bears in this beautiful planet for a long time.
