In an attempt to paint the Sombrero Galaxy, I made this small edge-on galaxy. Watercolor on paper and eye shadow.
This was a difficult one. It took me three other failed attempts to get here. Trying to make the very dark background to give that sense of space, but at the same time giving structure and brightness to the galaxy was a good and fun challenge. I also used a very thick paper (hahnemühle) that gives a rich texture and even makes the painting looks like a very old photograph.
The painting is not completely black and white, but it is more like a sepia tone since I added browns tones. I also finished with some eye shadow to give a bit of glitter and white ink to paint the stars.
