Orion Nebula is a cloud of gas and dust that is currently forming new stars.
Orion Nebula is the closest star forming region that we can study from Earth. It is visible to the naked eye in the constellation of Orion. Under very dark skies it appears as a dim and fussy star under Orion's Belt.
Images of the Orion Nebula often appear reddish or pink in color. I was inspired by observations made by the European Southern Observatory in Chile where they captured the ultraviolet light coming from the nebula and added it as a purple layer. I love this region because is so rich, and because it is full of new-born stars. Some call it a "stellar nursery".
The challenge was to make the white clouds look bright using a very dense white watercolor on the wet paper. I was able to give that ethereal effect with a subtle texture. At the end, I added some details using pastels. This is one of my personal favorites.
