I used Daniel Smith watercolor ground to cover a stretched canvas and being able to paint with watercolors. I also used a sample of mineral colors to give some shimmering effect to simulate the icy surface. I wanted to use coffee because I like to experiment and use natural colors. The coffee makes a very particular texture and reacted well with drops of water that I added to make the craters. This painting is inspired by NASA's New Horizons mission that flew by Pluto in 2015, and is the only mission that has sent back pictures of Pluto. We know how Pluto looks like only thanks to New Horizons.
