Stars can live for millions of years, but not not forever. Eventually they will run out of fuel. Some stars will collapse under their own weight and explode as supernovas, but other stars, the less massive, will shed their atmospheric layers slowly, until they are stripped and only the core remains. What happens to the possible planets that used to orbit these type of stars is still a mystery. The planets might fall into the star, break apart or get kicked out of the stellar system. I created this piece as my own interpretation of one of these scenarios. The star has shed most of its envelope, forming a cocoon around it, and what is left from the planets is now just bits and pieces that are falling into the star. The granular textures are made using coarse salt and mineral pigments. The color palette is mostly in orange and pink, as it would be in a dusty environment. A final splatter with white opaque pigment adds the appearance of a few stars in the foreground.

About the stretching process: I soaked the paper in a water tub for several minutes until it reached the texture of leather. On a table I put some paper towels to absorve the water excess and arranged the wooden bars over the paper. I wrapped the paper around the bars and staple it with a heavy duty staple machine. This process makes the paint looks like a canvas. When it dries, the tension in the paper allows it to stay flat, contrary to painting on loose paper. The bars are also a great way to have this paintings ready to hang. The process adds another day of work, but the result is very cool. The bars are about half an inch thick. The frame is light weight, and after applying varnish, it does not needs to protect the watercolor painting with glass.
